Housing Development: Number Crunching

Posted by the WCRA Editor on May - 15 - 2009 with Comments Off

Buried in the 2006 outline planning permission, there is a section on Policy REC2: Provision of open space, ancillary buildings and car parking that allows for some simple number crunching.  Simply stated  the document provides a guideline that, 200 dwellings, have 500 people therefore there is a requirement for 0.36ha of play spaces and pitch of 0.8ha.  With the appliance of a bit of arithmetic we can project the figures and derive some interesting values for different numbers of dwellings. Here are the results.

Interesting eh?

Of course in fairness to WBC, the policy might have been changed and the algorithm for calculating the figures might be more complex.  It would be good to know how they arrive at these figures.
